Teacher Action group Philadelphia is inspired and energized by the recent decision of the teachers at Garfield High School to oppose the MAP test at their school. Their decision sends a powerful message that teachers can make the collective choice to not idly sit by while their students are forced to take tests that they see as an ineffective tool for measuring their students’ progress. The professional educators at Garfield High School made this decision thoughtfully and carefully after years of administering the test and witnessing its flaws first-hand. TAG Philly stands in solidarity with the teachers at Garfield High School and echoes their call for authentic forms of assessments for students, teachers, and schools.
